The End of the Innocence

No more smiles and no more laughter
No more handprints on the door
No more "happily ever afters"
The children's hour is no more
Suspended in a lifelss haze
There will be NO more sunny days
No fairy tales, no birthday cards
No picking flowers in the yard
No Easter Bunny No Saint Nick
Kill these things and kill them quick!
And with those joys in this bleak world
Dies the spirit of a little girl
She did not cry, or scream, or wince
She did not fight in self-defense
But stripped of all her innocence
She gives her folks a tiny glimpse-
A glimmer of the nasty truth
Of how we're losing lots of youth
No more televsions shows
Or missing school because it snows
No more picnics on the lawn
These childish things are dead and gone
A grown up figure takes their place
With hands on hips and scowl on face
These adults don't love and they don't care
They cannot trust. They fail to share.
They are not true. They are not kind.
Crippled are their hearts and minds
And as their souls fade out to black
The children are NOT coming back!
