IF LOVE WERE ENOUGH

If love were enough, I could build you a castle
Far from the troubles of dark and of day
For guardians i'd give you four lusty dragons
Whose fierce battle cries would keep danger at bay.

All that you need, that you want and desire
Would be at your fingertips just at your call
Food for the spirit and food for the body
Surrounded by beauty in the great castle hall.

But all the illusions of beauty and safety,
Built out of love and of caring and trust,
Fall before battering of misunderstanding.
>From outside the evils change grandeur to dust.

So take in your heart this castle of cloud light.
I built it for you in my heart and my mind.
Take, too, the dragons who guard your whole being
Charged with my love against all evil-kind.

The walls built of granite, the girders of iron,
The roof can withstand any thunder or hail,
The floor solid stands upon Mothers bold bedrock,
And entry's for only those you've shown the trail.

I give you the tapestries hanging behind you,
The fireplace blazing in warmth and delight.
I give you a home in my mind and my spirit,
A place for your comfort on a cold, lonely night.

'Round a great oaken table, in unfiltered sunlight
Arrayed in a tableau, a merry display,
All of your friends who both love you and need you
Who know they can join with you here far away.

Now is the time for the storm and the lightning,
your life is in chaos, in sevens and fives.
But ahead is the day when we have the great castle
and dragons to guard us the rest of our lives.
